Participatory theatre is a programme offered by Sennaryo organisation that provides interactive training theatre techniques for women and youth from marginalised communities. It also provides advanced training for individuals with established expertise and on-the-ground mentorship for project leaders.
Additionally, Seenaryo has developed the Seenaryo Theatre Cookbook as a resource to support its facilitators and ensure their success. Seenaryo focuses on promoting social change in various areas, particularly among children, youth, and women.
The project aims to promote peacebuilding and conflict transformation, as well as improve employment opportunities, support well-being and life skills development, and empower women through learning.
Lebanon and Jordan have the highest refugee populations per capita worldwide. Children from vulnerable communities in these countries experience high levels of toxic stress affecting the development of their brains. A significant percentage of school-aged refugees lack access to education in both countries. The MENA region has the world's highest youth unemployment rate, with Lebanon and Jordan facing significant brain drain.
These countries have limited access to quality employment or training opportunities, hindering the development of social and emotional skills, critical thinking and professional capacities. Lebanon and Jordan are ranked low in the Gender Gap Index 2020, with low labour force participation rates for women. Women in these countries face social and political marginalisation, as well as an increase in sexual and gender-based violence.
Experiencing trauma and enduring challenging life circumstances can often ignite a spark of creativity and a fierce determination to succeed.
Harnessing the tension that often exists between host communities and refugees, can unlock a powerful tool for self-expression and community-building
